Sukkot is one of the three great pilgrimage festivals of the Jewish year. Over the centuries, Jews ascended to Jerusalem to commemorate the years spent in the desert on their way to the Promised Land. It celebrates the way in which God protected them under difficult desert conditions. For this reason, it is called the Feast of Tabernacles or the Feast of Booths.
To commemorate and better understand this festival, The International March of the Living has organized a virtual tour to the Southern Wall Excavation – The Davidson Center with Assaf Boker, a first-class Israeli tour guide. He will walk us through the traditional pilgrimage rituals and the Davidson Center. During this tour we will learn how some of the Jewish rituals were shaped in this very place.
