Faith Issues Today is a continuous learning series offered at Regis College. This series offers non-credit course on scripture, church history, theology and its relevancy in today’s world.

This session of Faith Issues Today is titled “Classic Cinema from Catholic Countries,” presented by Adelmo Dunghe, SJ. It will take place in-person on Tuesdays, April 25-May 30 from 6:30-8:30pm. The cost is $160.

It features a series of one-hour masterpieces by Luis Bunuel, Vittorio De Sica, Federico Fellini, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Louis Malle, Roberto Rossellini

Introducing postwar European culture in six theologically oriented works by popular writers and filmmakers. After each viewing, discussion will explore the historical, social, and spiritual worlds behind each film.

Discover the wartime roots of Italian Neorealist filmmaking in short films by such important masters as Roberto Rossellini, Vittorio De Sica, and Federico Fellini.

Follow the influence of the Neorealists on young French critics-turned-filmmakers such as Louis Malle, who produced the “New Wave” masterworks that transformed the art of cinema worldwide.

Explore the principles of the Italian Neorealists shaping the iconoclastic Surrealism of the Spaniard, Luis Bunuel.

Appreciate a modern theological classic from late-Communist Poland by the great Krzysztof Kieslowski.

Enjoy the immortal acting of internationally known stars as Brigitte Bardot, Alain Delon, Sophia Loren, Anna Magnani, and Marcello Mastroianni.

All films will be screened in original languages with English subtitles.
